3 Thoughts To Follow Your (ADHD) Curiosity Without Procrastinating Your Life Away

I have a ferociously hungry mind.

It’s a joy and a liability. I’ve procrastinated away countless hours following my curiosity down untold numbers of rabbit holes.

It’s related to having an ADHD brain. That doesn’t ever go away, but I’ve found the following 3 thoughts helpful in curbing it.

1. I don’t have to give in to my brain

My ADHD brain craves instant stimulation. It wants to follow what it thinks will be interesting and get the dopamine hit of satisfying its curiosity. I don’t have to let it have its way.

2. If it’s worth it, it’ll come back

Whenever I find something new, my brain wants to explore it. Now. Immediately. No time to waste.

Nonsense. I now (try to) ignore every new topic until it has come back via different routes at least a couple of times.

3. Small doses keep me enjoying it

Too much reading without putting any of it into action gets boring too. So, small doses, using timers.

(Oh yes, they get me to rebel against myself, but that’s for another essay.)
